Permanent Make up Treatments

FAQs

What is Microblading?

This is the process of implanting medical pigment into the skin using a handheld tool made up of several tiny needles. Microblading creates the appearance of natural hair and is considered semi-permanent makeup, which means it will fade over time. Yearly top ups are highly recommended in order to keep a precise shape and fresh colour. Microblading is meant to be a subtle and natural enhancement that creates fuller, more defined brows. It looks most natural on clients who already have semi full eyebrow hair and are wanting to enhance their shape. The more hair you have, the more natural it will appear. Microblading, alone, heals best on young, healthy, and dry/normal skin. Oily skin and aging/thin skin is best suited for Combination Brow which, involves a blend of microblading and shading.

What is Combination Brow?

This is the process of implanting medical pigment into the skin to create the appearance of filled in brows. This is perfect for clients who are perfectionists and love to wear a full face of make up! Combination brow is usually done with hair strokes (microblading) at the bulb of the brow and “shading” is used on the rest to give the look of powder. This is a beautiful look for ALL skin types and heals delicately and beautifully.

Does it hurt?

Most clients are very comfortable during their semi-permanent cosmetic procedure and some even fall asleep!. Topical 5% Lidocaine is used to make you comfortable during your appointment, however, pain tolerance varies from client to client. Caffeine and having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.

What factors will affect my semi-permanent cosmetics?

  • Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery.

  • Smoking: Smokers may notice that their semi-permanent cosmetics will fade faster.

  • Anaemia and iron deficiency: Your body will absorb these iron-based pigments more quickly.

  • Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading. You will want to use a special sunscreen for your semi-permanent cosmetics.

  • Age and metabolism: The faster your metabolism, the faster the pigment will fade.

  • Bleeding during the procedure: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine before your procedure.

Is there anything I need to know or do before my appointment/procedure?

Keep in mind that your brow shape will be determined based on you bone structure and facial features. If you tint your brows you will want to do so 72 hours before your appointment. You must not use Retin-A near the brow area 2 weeks before or after the procedure. You will need to avoid water for 10 days after your procedure. This includes excessive sweating, pools, lakes, salt water, and extreme sun exposure, so plan your vacations accordingly and wash your hair before your appointment if needed!. No Botox, fillers, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, etc. for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure, and 2 weeks after. Doing any of the following will cause excessive bleeding during your procedure and will delay your final result:

  • Do not take any medications that may thin your blood (i.e. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil) 72 hours before or immediately after your procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 48 hours before your procedure. (Caffeine increases blood flow and will affect your healed results.)

  • Do not work out the day of or the day after your appointment.

You are not a candidate for semi-permanent cosmetics if you are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Currently using Accutane or have used Accutane within the past year

  • Sunburned or freshly tanned face

  • Taking blood thinning medications or antibiotics

  • Have Rosacea

  • Currently undergoing cancer treatment

*Must be off Chemo or Radiation for 6 months*

How long will the procedure take?

The initial appointment takes approximately 3 hours. This includes the designing process, numbing the area and the semi-permanent cosmetics procedure. Top up sessions take approximately 1.5 hours.

Do I need a touch-up appointment?

Yes! All permanent cosmetic procedures require 2 sessions.

During your 6-9 week touch-up we will assess your pigment retention and make any adjustments needed. This follow-up also increases the longevity of your Semi-Permanent Cosmetics.

What will I look like after my appointment?

You may experience some redness or swelling around the treated area, this typically disappears within a few hours. Around day 3 you may notice the colour has darkened quite a bit. This is due to oxidation and will lighten up over the next few days. If you notice flaking or light scabbing on the treated area, DO NOT PICK AT IT. Doing so can result in loss of pigment in those areas. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once the area has gently peeled, the brows may appear to have lost pigment in some spots or completely. This is normal and does not mean that your Microblading or Combination Brow has disappeared. At this point, the skin is going through some changes and is muting or hiding the pigment underneath. The skin will normalize over the next 4-6 weeks and softened pigment should appear more clearly on the surface of the skin. After 4-6 weeks your brows will be fully healed. If, for any reason, any pigment did not return, it will be addressed during the touch-up appointment. Also, if you want to go darker or bolder, we can do so at the same touch-up appointment!. *Home care instructions will be given at the time of initial appointment.*

How long will my semi-permanent cosmetics last?

Cosmetic tattooing is designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment colour affect the longevity of the tattoo. Sun exposure and some forms of lighting (tanning beds) can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. In order to take the best care of your brows follow the aftercare instructions and touch-up your brows every 12-18 months (as needed). Yearly touch-ups are completely normal and expected for semi-permanent cosmetics. *Please note that results vary and CANNOT be guaranteed due to the nature of the skin as it heals.

A top up appointment is required at 6-9 weeks so we can assess your pigment retention and make any necessary changes.*
